Two Soldiers Killed, Two Injured in Clash with Terrorists in J&K’s Kishtwar

Two Army Personnel Killed, Two Injured in Gunfight with Terrorists in J&K’s Kishtwar

A fierce gunbattle with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Friday resulted in the deaths of two Indian Army personnel and injuries to two others. The confrontation occurred as part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the region.

Naib Subedar Vipin Kumar and Sepoy Arvind Singh were identified as the soldiers who succumbed to their injuries during the encounter. The two injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment at the Command Hospital in Udhampur.

The Indian Army paid tribute to the fallen soldiers on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “#IndianArmy #GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of the #Bravehearts; offer deepest condolences to the families.”

In related operations, security forces engaged in a successful anti-terror crackdown at Khandara Kathua, where two terrorists were neutralised. The Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army reported, “Two terrorists were neutralised in the ongoing operation at Khandara Kathua. Operations are in progress.” The forces recovered significant items from the terrorists, including an AK-47 assault rifle, a US-made M4 carbine, a pistol, magazines, a machete, a mobile phone, and other warlike stores.

The crackdown continued as the security forces dismantled a terror hideout in Surankote town, Poonch district. According to a statement by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, a joint search operation involving the Police, Army, and CRPF was launched early on September 12, 2024. The operation targeted the Chamerd Surankot area following specific intelligence.

“The area was cordoned off and searched. During the search, security forces were fired upon by militants who took advantage of the thick forest cover to evade capture. Additional forces have been deployed, and the area remains cordoned off,” the statement said. Arms, ammunition, and supplies were recovered from the hideout, and a case has been registered for further investigation.
