A change in travel plans tragically cost a 20-year-old woman her life in a deadly fire caused by a tanker crash on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway. Vinita, a resident of Pratapgarh, was one of three victims who succumbed to severe burn injuries after a bus she was traveling in caught fire following a collision between a truck and an LPG tanker.
The incident occurred on December 20, when Vinita, who had traveled to Udaipur to take an exam, decided to take a sleeper bus back to Jaipur instead of her original plan to board a train the following day. She hoped to reach Jaipur early, but her decision led to disaster.
Vinita was standing near the door of the bus, preparing to disembark at a stop near the 200-feet bypass in Jaipur, when the fire suddenly erupted just meters away. The blaze engulfed the bus, critically injuring her with 70% burns. She managed to jump out of the bus and ran a short distance, but by then the damage had already been done.
Vinita’s father, Ramchandra, was left shocked and devastated when he received a call from his daughter during the fire. “She called me when the explosion occurred, and I was in shock, not knowing what to do. The call was disconnected, and soon after, we learned that she had been badly injured,” he recalled.
Despite being rushed to SMS Hospital, where she received intensive care, Vinita died from her injuries early on Wednesday morning, five days after the accident. Her death brings the total number of fatalities from the crash to 18, with 15 others still receiving treatment. Two of the injured remain in critical condition.
Vinita had been preparing for competitive exams in Jaipur and was living there with her younger sister. Her family, after the postmortem, left for Pratapgarh with her body to give her a final farewell.
The fire began after the LPG tanker collided with a truck, sparking a massive fireball that spread across the highway, devastating everything in its path. On the day of the accident, 11 people lost their lives, and many others sustained serious injuries. The rescue operation and medical teams have been working relentlessly to save those affected.
