In a disturbing incident in Delhi’s Shakarpur area, a 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly installing spy cameras in the washroom and bedroom of his tenant, a civil service aspirant. The accused, identified as Karan, is the son of the woman’s landlord, who had been entrusted with the keys to the apartment while she was away.
The woman’s ordeal began when she noticed unusual activity on her WhatsApp account, prompting her to investigate further. Upon discovering that her account was logged into an unknown laptop, she quickly logged out. It was then that she decided to check for potential spying devices in her home.
The situation escalated when she found a hidden camera in the bulb holder of her bathroom. Alarmed, she contacted the police to report the invasion of privacy. Upon further investigation, officers located another camera in her bedroom.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta reported that Karan, who resides in the same building, confessed to installing the cameras three months prior while the woman was visiting her hometown in Uttar Pradesh. He admitted to purchasing three spy cameras available in local electronics markets and had previously requested the keys under the pretense of needing to repair electrical fixtures.
Karan’s plan was to retrieve the recorded videos from the cameras by transferring them to his laptop. The police have since recovered an additional spy camera and two laptops containing the illicit recordings.
This shocking breach of trust has raised concerns about tenant safety and privacy, prompting authorities to take swift action against Karan. He has been charged with voyeurism and other related offenses, with further investigations ongoing.
