“Indian Man Holds Wedding via Video Call After Turkish Employer Denies Leave”

In a modern twist to traditional wedding ceremonies, a man in Himachal Pradesh tied the knot with his bride in Mandi via video call after his Turkish employer denied him leave for the occasion. The wedding of Adnan Muhammad, a resident of Bilaspur, was carried out virtually due to work commitments and family pressure, marking a unique union made possible by technology.

Adnan, who works in Turkey, had originally planned to return home for his wedding. However, his company refused to grant him leave for the ceremony, leaving him with no choice but to marry virtually. Meanwhile, the bride’s family insisted on an urgent wedding as the bride’s ailing grandfather wished to witness the union before his health deteriorated further.

Despite the challenges, the families decided to go ahead with the wedding via video call. The bride, in Mandi, and the groom, in Turkey, were connected virtually as a qazi (Muslim priest) conducted the ‘nikah’. Both the groom and bride said “qubool hai” (I accept) three times, confirming the marriage.

Adnan’s uncle, Akram Mohammad, explained that the wedding was made possible due to the advanced technology available today. “Without technology, this marriage would not have happened,” he said.

The virtual wedding took place on Monday after the groom’s family traveled from Bilaspur to Mandi, and a barat (wedding procession) was symbolically sent, even though the groom could not physically attend.

This virtual wedding is not the first of its kind in the region. Last year, Ashish Singha from Kotgarh and Shivani Thakur from Bhuntar also tied the knot through video-conferencing, as landslides and flash floods prevented the traditional wedding procession from reaching its destination.

The unique wedding reflects how technological advancements are bridging the gap in crucial moments, helping families stay connected despite geographical distances and unforeseen circumstances.
