A tragic accident claimed the life of 26-year-old IPS officer Harsh Bardhan on Sunday as he was en route to take up his first posting in Hassan district, Karnataka. Harsh, who was a resident of Madhya Pradesh, had recently completed a four-week training program at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru and was on his way to report for duty as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur.
The fatal accident occurred when the tire of the police vehicle he was traveling in reportedly burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then collided with both a house and a tree along the roadside. Bardhan, who sustained severe head injuries, was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
Visuals from the site of the crash showed the police vehicle in a mangled state, highlighting the force of the collision. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic loss, stating, “This should not have happened when years of hard work were paying off.” He extended his condolences to Bardhan’s family and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
Sadananda Gowda, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, also mourned the loss, calling it a “tragic loss” and praising Bardhan as a “dedicated young officer in the making.”
The accident occurred near the Kittane border on the Hassan-Mysuru Highway. As a young officer just starting his career, Harsh Bardhan’s death has left his family, colleagues, and the state in mourning. His untimely death has been described as a devastating blow, especially as he was on the verge of beginning his professional journey in law enforcement.
