In the latest weather update from Kashmir, the famous tourist destinations of Pahalgam and Gulmarg have been reported as the coldest places in the region. On the night between Thursday and Friday, Pahalgam recorded a frigid minimum temperature of -10°C, while Gulmarg registered -8.1°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). These cold temperatures come as Kashmir continues to experience a dip in nighttime temperatures across various areas.
Despite the cold nights, the day on Friday brought clear skies and sunshine to most parts of Kashmir. The IMD’s local office, however, has predicted that Saturday will bring a shift in weather conditions, with light rain in the plains of Jammu and snow expected at isolated higher altitudes of both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
In Srinagar, the weather was similarly cold, with temperatures dropping to -4.3°C during the night. The daytime temperature in Srinagar reached 8.5°C, which is 1.9°C higher than the average for this time of year.
Looking ahead, the IMD has forecasted generally cloudy weather for the weekend, with light rain and snow expected at isolated places on Saturday. However, from January 12 to 14, the weather is expected to remain dry, offering a brief respite from the colder conditions.
As winter tightens its grip over the region, the weather continues to be a key factor for both residents and tourists, especially those visiting for winter sports in Gulmarg or the scenic beauty of Pahalgam. Local authorities have urged caution, particularly in higher reaches where snow may accumulate, affecting travel and outdoor activities.
