Punjab Police Demolish Illegally Constructed Houses of Drug Peddlers in Patiala and Rupnagar

In a continued crackdown on drug peddlers, Punjab Police, along with the local administration, demolished illegally constructed houses belonging to two drug smugglers in Patiala and Rupnagar districts on Thursday. The operation was part of the state government’s aggressive campaign against the drug menace in Punjab.

In Patiala, a police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Nanak Singh took action against a notorious drug smuggler identified as Rinky, a resident of Rodi Kut Mohalla. Rinky, who has been a habitual offender, has at least 10 FIRs registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act between 2016 and 2024. The police demolished his illegally built house following demolition orders issued by the district administration.

“The police are committed to taking strict action against drug smugglers, and such actions will continue against habitual offenders,” SSP Dr. Nanak Singh stated.

Similarly, in Rupnagar, Punjab Police and district authorities took stern action against drug smugglers Salim Mohammad and his wife Asha. Their illegally constructed house in Sadabrat village was demolished in an operation conducted by the Municipal Council, Rupnagar, with the assistance of the police.

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and SSP Rupnagar Gulneet Singh Khurana confirmed that the demolition was part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive to eliminate drug networks in the region. The couple had three criminal cases each under the NDPS Act, and previous investigations revealed that they were involved in the drug trade, with ganja and narcotic powder recovered from them.

“The accused built their house using drug money, and we will continue taking similar actions against those benefiting from the illicit drug trade,” SSP Khurana emphasized.

The Punjab Police have vowed to maintain their aggressive stance against drug trafficking and organized crime, ensuring strict enforcement of the law to curb the drug menace in the state.
