Harpreet Singh, a US-based terrorist responsible for a series of 14 terror attacks across Punjab, has been arrested by the US authorities. Known by the alias “Happy Passia,” Singh was taken into custody by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after being apprehended for entering the United States illegally. A first image of Singh in FBI custody was released, marking a significant development in the case.
Singh, who had been on the run for months, was reportedly using burner phones to evade arrest and had been closely monitored by security agencies. In India, Singh is one of the most wanted terrorists, with a reward of Rs 5 lakh for any information leading to his capture. He is linked to a series of blasts targeting police establishments in Amritsar, which began in November 2024, as well as attacks on private residences, including that of BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar. In most of the incidents, Singh took to social media to claim responsibility for the attacks.
According to sources within the Indian security agencies, Singh is alleged to have carried out the attacks in collaboration with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, and the extremist group Babbar Khalsa International. Singh’s arrest is a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to combat terror activities linked to Pakistan-based groups operating in India.
The authorities have hailed this arrest as a major success in their efforts to dismantle terror networks operating both in India and abroad. Singh’s capture is expected to shed more light on the operational links between the terrorist groups and their foreign handlers.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to gather more information about his international connections and potential threats to India’s national security.
