Second BSF Soldier Dies from Injuries in Jammu After Pakistani Shelling

Second BSF Personnel Dies in Jammu Due to Pakistani Shelling: Two Troopers Succumb to Injuries

In a tragic turn of events, a second Border Security Force (BSF) trooper, Constable Deepak Chimngakham, succumbed to injuries on May 11, following a cross-border shelling by Pakistan on May 10 in Jammu’s RS Pura sector. The firing, which occurred along the International Boundary, was part of a series of retaliatory actions taken after India’s Operation Sindoor against Pakistani terror infrastructure in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

The BSF confirmed Chimngakham’s death in a social media post, stating that he was among the eight troopers of the BSF’s 7th Battalion who were injured in the attack. “Constable Deepak Chimngakham sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing along the International Boundary in RS Pura area, Jammu district, on May 10, and attained martyrdom on May 11,” the BSF posted. The organization expressed deep condolences to his family and hailed his sacrifice.

Earlier, on May 10, sub-inspector Mohammed Imteyaz, also from the same battalion, succumbed to his injuries from the same shelling incident. A wreath-laying ceremony with full military honours was held at the BSF’s frontier headquarters in Paloura, Jammu, on Sunday to honour Imteyaz’s service. His last rites are scheduled to take place in his native Narayanpur village in Bihar’s Saran district on Monday.

The Pakistani shelling marked a continuation of escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, which had started earlier in the week after India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7. The operation led to the destruction of nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing over 100 terrorists. The BSF retaliated strongly to Pakistani offensives during the following days.

Despite the intensifying skirmishes, a ceasefire agreement was reached between the two countries on Saturday, halting all military actions on land, air, and sea. However, the casualties of this latest round of hostilities have underscored the ongoing tension along the international border.

Both BSF personnel, Imteyaz and Chimngakham, have been remembered as martyrs who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Their families, along with the entire BSF fraternity, have been extended heartfelt condolences as the nation mourns their loss.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those protecting the borders and the challenges of maintaining peace in a volatile region.
