President Murmu Advocates '3-H' Formula for Student Development on Teachers' Day

President Droupadi Murmu, in her address during the National Teachers’ Award 2022 ceremony held on Teachers’ Day, highlighted the crucial role of educators in nurturing the unique abilities of each child. She emphasized that it is the shared responsibility of both teachers and parents to recognize and develop these abilities with sensitivity.

The President awarded 75 teachers for their outstanding contributions to the field of education, acknowledging their significant impact on shaping the future of the nation. Teachers’ Day, celebrated on September 5, commemorates the birth anniversary of India’s first Vice-President and second President, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

During her speech, President Murmu emphasized that parents entrust their children to teachers with great trust and hope for special attention and affection. She underscored the privilege teachers have in imparting knowledge and values to a classroom full of students.

In her address, the President noted that quality education is considered the fundamental right of every child, and the role of teachers is pivotal in achieving this goal. She pointed out that the National Education Policy 2020 clearly recognizes the importance of teachers as nation-builders.

President Murmu introduced the “three-H formula” for the balanced development of children, which includes the heart (sensitivity, values, character, and morality), head (mental development, reasoning, and academic growth), and hand (respect for manual skills and physical labor). She stressed that a holistic approach, considering all three aspects, is necessary for the comprehensive development of children.

The President emphasized that the interactions children have with teachers leave a lasting impact, with praise, encouragement, or even punishment remaining etched in their memories. She highlighted the significance of providing love and affection to students, noting that these gestures are often more impactful than the knowledge imparted.

President Murmu also highlighted the importance of recognizing the achievements of female teachers to encourage their greater participation in the profession. She emphasized that promoting female students and teachers is essential for women’s empowerment.

This year, the National Teachers’ Award expanded its scope to include teachers from higher education and skill education. The winners had the privilege of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, further acknowledging their exceptional contributions to the field of education.

The ceremony celebrated the dedication and commitment of teachers and reinforced their role as pillars of the nation’s educational system.
