The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has suspended Lok Sabha MP Danish Ali in the aftermath of a contentious parliamentary exchange and subsequent alleged “anti-party activities.” This action against Danish Ali, representing Amroha, emerged after a tense altercation on the floor of the house and has stirred political turbulence.
The BSP cited “anti-party activity” as the grounds for the suspension, explicitly specifying repeated warnings to Ali regarding statements or actions conflicting with the party’s policies and ideology. A statement from the BSP outlined the reason behind this disciplinary action, underscoring his alleged continuous defiance of the party’s directives.
Denying the charges leveled against him, Danish Ali staunchly defended his actions, asserting his commitment to bolstering the BSP and reiterated that he had not engaged in any actions against the party’s interests. He highlighted his opposition to what he termed as “anti-people policies” of the BJP government and vowed to persist in this stance.
Expressing gratitude to Mayawati for the Lok Sabha ticket, Danish Ali expressed disappointment at the party’s decision, branding it as unfortunate.
The suspension followed an unsettling incident in Parliament where BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri targeted Ali with communal slurs, prompting outrage and condemnation. Ali, in response, held a solitary protest demanding justice for Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra, expelled from the Lok Sabha. His protest underscored the need to safeguard victims from being labeled as perpetrators.
The incident dates back to a heated discussion on the Chandrayaan-3 mission in September, marred by objectionable remarks by Bidhuri directed at Ali. Bidhuri expressed regret during a Lok Sabha Privileges Committee meeting for his remarks against Ali.
While BSP refrained from direct comments, they accused Danish Ali of deviating from the party’s line, reminding him of the assurances made upon his entry into the party fold.
Danish Ali, who transitioned from Janata Dal (Secular) to BSP in 2019, entered the political arena under the guidance of JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda. His swift nomination from Amroha and subsequent victory in the 2019 general elections marked a significant political trajectory.
The suspension of Danish Ali, amid tensions in the parliamentary arena and internal party dynamics, underscores the widening fissures within the political landscape.
