In a chilling murder case that has shocked the nation, Suchana Seth, the CEO of a Bengaluru startup, stands accused of killing her four-year-old son in a Goa service apartment. The investigation, marked by the discovery of critical evidence such as a knife, towel, and pillow, has taken a dramatic turn, unraveling a disturbing tale of alleged maternal violence.
The police retrieved these items from the service apartment in Candolim, Goa, where Seth stayed from January 6 to January 8. Authorities suspect that the mother took her son’s life in the apartment, concealed the body in a bag, and transported it to Karnataka in a taxi on Monday.
The apartment staff’s alertness played a crucial role in initiating the investigation. Upon finding blood stains on a towel in Seth’s room, the staff promptly notified the police. They also noted the unusual weight of the bag she carried and the absence of her son during her stay.
The post-mortem examination revealed that the young victim was smothered to death, possibly with a piece of cloth or a pillow. The accused, Suchana Seth, had apparently attempted suicide by slashing her wrists, later using the towel to staunch the bleeding, according to preliminary police statements.
“The recovery list from the crime scene includes a knife, a distinctive red bag, a towel, and a pillow,” confirmed the police.
When questioned about the bloodstains, Seth reportedly attributed them to her menstrual cycle and provided a false address for her son. The police, suspecting foul play, communicated with the cab driver in Konkani to discreetly bring the vehicle to the nearest police station.
Caught with the red bag containing her son’s body, Suchana Seth was arrested in Chitradurga, Karnataka, on Monday night and subsequently brought back to Goa. Despite being in police custody until next week, she has reportedly shown “no remorse” over her son’s death and has been uncooperative during questioning.
As investigators strive to uncover the motive behind the gruesome act, they are examining Suchana Seth’s Call Detail Records (CDR) to trace her contacts and conversations leading up to the incident. Sources suggest that the murder might be linked to a custody battle with her estranged husband, Venkat Raman, with whom she had a troubled marriage.
Divorce documents reveal a history of domestic violence allegations filed by Seth against Venkat Raman in August 2022, accusing him of physically abusing her and their son. Venkat Raman, who reached Hiriyur in Chitradurga district to claim his son’s body, denies the charges.
The investigation is ongoing, and police plan to take Suchana Seth back to the service apartment for a reconstruction of the crime scene. The CEO of ‘The Mindful AI Lab’ now faces serious criminal charges, adding a tragic chapter to her professional and personal history.
