Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj, former Foreign Affairs Minister of India, is poised to make her political debut as she gears up to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its initial list of candidates, with Bansuri Swaraj set to vie for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
Expressing her commitment to carry forward her mother’s legacy, Bansuri Swaraj remarked that she would strive to live up to the standards set by Sushma Swaraj, whom she believed was blessing her endeavors from above.
“I know I have the blessings of Ma (Sushma Swaraj). But this achievement does not belong to Bansuri Swaraj, but every karyakarta (worker) of Delhi BJP,” stated Bansuri Swaraj in an interview with NDTV.
With a distinguished career as a lawyer, Bansuri Swaraj brings a wealth of legal expertise to the political arena. Having served as the co-convenor of BJP Delhi’s legal cell, Bansuri possesses fifteen years of experience in legal practice. She holds a law degree from the prestigious BPP Law School in London and has been enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi since 2007. Additionally, she completed her Masters of Studies from St. Catherine’s College at the University of Oxford, further enhancing her legal credentials.
Bansuri Swaraj has garnered attention for her vocal stance on various issues, notably critiquing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023. Her scathing remarks during a press conference last year highlighted her willingness to challenge perceived inefficiencies in governance.
As the BJP aims for a resounding victory in the upcoming elections, the announcement of Bansuri Swaraj’s candidacy underscores the party’s strategy to field prominent candidates. The list of candidates released by the BJP includes heavyweight leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, signaling the party’s intent to secure a decisive mandate.
