“Tragedy in Mumbai Hospital: Mother and Baby Die in Delivery Using Phone Torch, BMC Initiates Inquiry”

A heartbreaking incident has shaken Mumbai as a pregnant mother and her baby tragically lost their lives during a Caesarian delivery carried out using a cellphone torch at a hospital. The hospital in question is operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), known as India’s richest civic body, with a substantial budget allocated for healthcare.

Khusruddin Ansari, a specially-abled individual, brought his 26-year-old wife Sahidun to the Sushma Swaraj maternity home for her delivery. The couple, married for just 11 months, had high hopes for a safe delivery. However, the situation turned grim when the power outage occurred at the hospital, and the generator reportedly remained inactive for three hours.

The family alleges that despite their repeated pleas and the deteriorating condition of the mother and child, no immediate action was taken to transfer them to another facility. Instead, doctors proceeded with the delivery in the darkness using a phone torch. Tragically, both the mother and baby did not survive the ordeal.

Mr. Ansari’s mother expressed shock and anger over the hospital’s actions, stating that the doctors made the incision without proper consent and performed the delivery using inadequate lighting. She demanded justice for her daughter-in-law and called for strict punishment for the medical staff involved.

The family’s grief and anger have led to protests outside the hospital, prompting the BMC to initiate an inquiry into the incident. Former BMC councillor Jagruti Patil of the BJP emphasized the need for swift and decisive action, citing previous complaints about the hospital’s conditions.
