Following a wave of bomb threats targeting educational institutions across India, at least eight private schools in Bengaluru received hoax bomb threats via email on Tuesday. This incident echoes a disturbing trend, with 48 schools having faced bomb threats from the same domain in the previous year.
The targeted schools in Bengaluru include prominent institutions like Bengaluru Scottish School, Bhavan Bangalore School, Jain Heritage School, Deeksha High School, Edify Schools, Chitrakoota School, Gangothri International Public School, and Giridhanva School. The threatening emails originated from the domain ‘beeble.com,’ registered with an end-to-end encrypted provider based in Nicosia, Cyprus, as reported by the Deccan Herald.
This recent spate of threats extends beyond Bengaluru, as schools in Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, and Jaipur have also been subjected to similar hoax bomb threats. The severity of these threats has prompted heightened vigilance among school authorities and law enforcement agencies.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Dayananda addressed the media, revealing that the perpetrators behind these threats had utilized Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and proxy servers to conceal their identities. He assured that swift action was taken upon receiving the threat emails, leading to thorough investigations that ultimately determined them to be hoaxes.
The emails, which contained chilling messages of explosive devices planted within school premises, also warned of imminent explosions unless the demands of a group called “Court” were met. Despite the alarming content, no explosives were found following extensive searches of the schools’ premises.
School administrations promptly alerted the police upon receiving these threatening emails, triggering immediate responses and security measures. Authorities promptly declared the threats as hoaxes after thorough searches yielded no evidence of explosive devices.
