Arvind Kejriwal Appeals to Supreme Court Over High Court’s Bail Suspension

Arvind Kejriwal Approaches Supreme Court Against High Court's Stay on Bail

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has turned to the Supreme Court, contesting the Delhi High Court’s decision to stay his bail in a corruption case related to the liquor policy scandal. This development comes as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has petitioned against the bail granted to Mr. Kejriwal just hours before his scheduled release from Tihar Jail.

On Friday, the Delhi High Court ruled that the trial court’s order granting bail to Mr. Kejriwal would be put on hold until the ED’s petition is heard. In response, Mr. Kejriwal’s legal team has requested an urgent hearing, scheduled for tomorrow.

Mr. Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED on charges of money laundering, with the agency alleging that he received funds from the liquor lobby to shape the excise policy. These funds were purportedly used to finance his Aam Aadmi Party’s election campaign in Goa. Mr. Kejriwal has been incarcerated since March 21, with the exception of a brief interim bail granted by the Supreme Court ahead of the general election.
