In a significant diplomatic move, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited the iconic BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi during his trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). His visit included interactions with monks from the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sansthan (BAPS) and participation in the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations.

During his stay, Jaishankar engaged in “productive and deep” discussions with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE. The ministers exchanged insights on regional and global issues, highlighting the ever-growing ties between the two nations.

The BAPS Hindu Mandir holds special significance as it stands as a visible symbol of friendship between India and the UAE, following its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the year. The temple was constructed on land donated by the UAE government, showcasing the strong cultural and religious bonds between the two countries.

Jaishankar’s participation in the International Day of Yoga celebrations at the Louvre, Abu Dhabi museum premises further underscored the cultural exchange and mutual cooperation between India and the UAE. The event brought together participants from various countries, reflecting the global appeal of yoga as a unifying practice.

The visit also provided an opportunity to review the comprehensive strategic partnership established between India and the UAE, including the landmark Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in February 2022. This agreement aims to enhance economic engagement and collaboration between the two nations.

With a vibrant Indian community of approximately 3.5 million in the UAE, the visit emphasized the strong people-to-people ties and the significant role of the Indian diaspora in contributing to the bilateral relationship.

Overall, Jaishankar’s visit reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between India and the UAE across various domains, highlighting the strategic importance of the relationship in regional and global contexts.
