Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav paid a visit to Delhi Water Minister Atishi at LNJP Hospital today, extending support amid her hospitalization due to deteriorating health conditions following an indefinite hunger strike. Yadav praised Atishi’s dedication to public service and criticized the BJP-led Centre for escalating challenges faced by state governments.
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, visited Atishi at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in Delhi, where she was admitted to the emergency ICU after her health deteriorated during a hunger strike demanding water supply for Delhi. Speaking to the media after the visit, Yadav commended Atishi’s courage and commitment to addressing Delhi’s issues.
“I came to inquire about the health of Delhi Water Minister Atishi. She is not only brave but also knows how to fight for the people. She has been constantly fighting to solve the problems of Delhi,” Yadav expressed, highlighting Atishi’s proactive stance on public welfare.
Yadav took the opportunity to criticize the BJP government, alleging increased difficulties for state chief ministers since the BJP came to power at the Centre. “Since the BJP has formed the government, the problems of chief ministers have increased,” he asserted, accusing the Centre of discrimination against the Delhi government and obstructing its initiatives in health, education, and other sectors.
Furthermore, Yadav condemned what he described as misuse of institutions like the CBI to target political opponents. “The Centre has been framing those who pose a threat to the BJP. Misuse of the CBI and other institutions led to voting against the BJP. They just scraped through from being wiped out,” Yadav claimed, implying electoral repercussions for such actions.
Atishi, known for her roles across multiple portfolios in the Delhi government, began her hunger strike on June 21 to press for water supply improvements. Her hospitalization on Tuesday underscored the seriousness of her health condition, with doctors confirming her stable status in the ICU at LNJP Hospital.
Akhilesh Yadav’s visit to Atishi at LNJP Hospital not only underscored solidarity within political circles but also brought attention to ongoing governance challenges and political dynamics surrounding Delhi’s water supply issue. As Atishi continues her recovery, discussions on governance and state autonomy amid central government policies remain at the forefront.
