“Amritpal Singh’s Brother Arrested for Drugs; Father Calls it a’conspiracy’ “

Harpreet Singh, the elder brother of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, was apprehended by the Jalandhar Rural Police on Thursday evening along with another individual, Lovepreet Singh alias Luv, for possession of 5 grams of Methamphetamine (ICE). The arrest took place in Phillaur as the duo was reportedly en route to Ludhiana.

According to police officials, Harpreet Singh, aged between 30-35 years, was involved in transport dispatching work. Investigations are currently ongoing into the matter.

Reacting strongly to his son’s arrest, Tarsem Singh, father of Amritpal Singh, alleged a conspiracy aimed at their family and supporters. He stated, “This is a conspiracy against our family and aides of Amritpal Singh. We had apprehended that the government could hatch this to defame us. Governments are doing this to hide their failures and derail Amritpal Singh’s mission of youth welfare.”

Earlier today, a scheduled march at Baghapurana in Moga district to seek the release of the ‘Bandi Singhs’ was disrupted due to the arrest. Tarsem Singh claimed, “Harpreet Singh was to participate in the march, which the government does not like. Hence, this conspiracy has been hatched.”

He further alleged historical precedent, saying, “Governments have a history of registering false cases and indulging in fake encounters against Sikhs.”

Amritpal Singh, known for his pro-Khalistani stance, is currently incarcerated in Assam’s Dibrugarh district under the National Security Act. Recently elected as an independent Lok Sabha member from Khadoor Sahib, he won the 2024 elections by a significant margin.

His mother, Balwinder Kaur, defended her son, denying any links to Khalistani movements and demanded his immediate release. “He should be released so he can thank his supporters and work on the issues he fought for in the elections,” she emphasized.

Amritpal Singh gained attention in February last year when he and his supporters clashed with police at Ajnala police station in Moga, attempting to free one of his aides from custody.
