Mumbai Police officials revealed that Aftab Poonawala, accused in the high-profile Shraddha Walkar murder case, was reportedly targeted by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, according to sources linked to the investigation into the recent killing of politician Baba Siddique.
The revelation emerged during the interrogation of Shivkumar Gautam, a key shooter in the murder of Ajit Pawar’s party leader. Gautam reportedly disclosed that Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar had discussed plans to attack Poonawala. However, the gang refrained from carrying out the attack due to the heightened security at Tihar Jail, where Poonawala is currently lodged.
Gruesome Murder Shocked the Nation
Aftab Poonawala gained notoriety in May 2022 for allegedly murdering his live-in partner, 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar, in a horrific crime that stunned the nation. Poonawala reportedly strangled Walkar to death at their rented residence in South Delhi’s Chhattarpur Pahadi. According to the police charge sheet, he dismembered her body using a saw, stored the parts in a refrigerator, and disposed of them in forested areas over time.
Poonawala was arrested on November 12, 2022, and has been held at Tihar Jail since then, with his case drawing widespread public and media attention.
Baba Siddique Murder Case
The connection to Poonawala surfaced amid investigations into the assassination of Baba Siddique, a senior political leader, who was shot dead by three gunmen on October 12 near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra, Mumbai. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for Siddique’s murder.
Mumbai Police have arrested three suspects involved in Siddique’s killing. As the investigation unfolds, the Bishnoi gang’s broader criminal network and their alleged plans to target Poonawala have added another layer to the ongoing probe into gang activities in the region.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while investigating the gang’s operations and potential threats to other high-profile individuals.
