A shocking incident unfolded at Mysuru Palace on the night of September 20, when a fierce brawl broke out between two Dasara elephants, causing panic among bystanders. A video of the clash has since gone viral, capturing the alarming moment when one elephant chased the other near the palace’s Eastern Gate.
The altercation involved 43-year-old Dhananjaya and 25-year-old Kanjan, which began during their feeding time. Dhananjaya, ridden by his mahout, aggressively confronted Kanjan, prompting a desperate attempt by the younger elephant to escape. In a bid for freedom, Kanjan broke loose, triggering a chase that saw Dhananjaya toppling barricades in pursuit. Fortunately, the older elephant halted just outside the palace grounds, averting a potentially dangerous situation.
As Kanjan ventured onto busy roads, a sense of alarm swept through the area. Thankfully, Dhananjaya’s mahout acted quickly, regaining control over the elephants and ensuring the safety of both animals and the onlookers. According to reports from IANS, both elephants were eventually coaxed back to the palace, where they will continue their training in preparation for the upcoming Mysore Dasara festival.
