The World Fund for Development and Planning, serving as the Special Advisor to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, has announced the establishment of an International Lobby comprising 120 organizations from various United Nations member states. This initiative aims to advocate for the recognition and establishment of a Palestinian state as per UN Charter.
Ambassador Ekramy El Zaghat, the President of the Fund, stated that the coalition of 120 member organizations, representing a significant portion of the United Nations member states, has come together to exert pressure on the United Nations for the acknowledgment of a Palestinian state. He emphasized that this recognition is essential for achieving lasting peace in the region.
In a statement released by the Fund today, El Zaghat expressed that the ongoing occupation of Palestine is intolerable and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Palestine and Israel. He noted that the conflict has escalated from Palestine to Lebanon due to actions by Israel, and he lamented the international community’s apparent indifference to these developments. He stressed the importance of recognizing that continued silence could trigger further conflict in the Arab region, underscoring the urgent need for action from international organizations and intervention by the United Nations to address the atrocities of the Israeli occupation, which have far-reaching implications beyond the Arab world.
Ambassador El Zaghat urged the global community to support the coalition led by the Fund, alongside various organizations and member states, in light of the inadequate response from the international community and the United Nations. He further called upon the peaceful members of the global community to advocate for the two-state solution, which he believes is vital for achieving sustainable peace in the Arab region.
