Amid swirling rumors suggesting a potential defection from the Congress to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath has stirred speculation by taking down a “Jai Shri Ram” flag from his residence. The move comes amidst heightened political speculation over Nath and his son Nakul Nath’s future political affiliations.
Reports emerged on Sunday of the “Jai Shri Ram” flag being sighted atop Kamal Nath’s residence in Delhi, raising eyebrows in political circles. These developments have fueled rumors of a possible departure from the Congress and a subsequent alliance with the BJP.
Speculation surrounding Nath’s political allegiance intensified over the weekend when he arrived in Delhi, coinciding with reports that his son, Nakul Nath, had removed references to the Congress from his social media profile. This led to widespread conjecture that Kamal Nath might be in talks with BJP leadership during his visit to the national capital.
Sources suggest that Nath’s discontent stems from his removal as the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief following the party’s defeat to the BJP in the state assembly elections last year. The BJP’s resounding victory dealt a significant blow to Nath’s leadership within the Congress ranks.
However, despite the mounting speculation, the Congress has vehemently denied reports of Nath’s defection. Party leaders have pointed to Nath’s long-standing association with the Congress, citing his close ties with the Gandhi family, particularly former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who once referred to him as her “third son” during campaign rallies in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara, a constituency Nath represented for nine consecutive terms.
Jitu Patwari, Nath’s successor as the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief, sought to dispel rumors of Nath’s defection, asserting that the reports were part of a conspiracy. Patwari affirmed that Nath remains committed to the Congress ideology and reiterated Nath’s assurances of loyalty to the party.
“His relationship with the Gandhi family is unshakable. He has lived with the ideology of Congress and will remain with it till the end,” stated Patwari, emphasizing Nath’s unwavering allegiance to the Congress party.
As political tensions mount and rumors persist, all eyes are on Kamal Nath’s next move and whether his actions will indeed mark a seismic shift in Madhya Pradesh’s political landscape.
