On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah marked a momentous occasion by laying the foundation stone for India’s tallest Lord Rama statue in Mantralayam, Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. The virtual ceremony witnessed the commencement of the ambitious project, which aims to capture the spirit of devotion and reinforce India’s cultural legacy.
The grand 108 feet tall statue of Lord Rama, along with a Ram mandir, will be brought to life through the efforts of Jai Shri Ram Foundation at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore. Mantralayam’s Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt generously contributed a 10-acre plot to facilitate the construction of the Ram mandir and the installation of the awe-inspiring statue.
The esteemed sculptor, Ram Vanji Sutar, who earned global acclaim for crafting the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, has been entrusted with the task of designing and crafting the majestic Lord Rama idol at Mantralayam.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his enthusiasm for the project through a tweet, stating, “Laid the foundation stone for a 108 feet tall statue of Prabhu Shri Ramachandraji, to be built by Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The colossal statue of Prabhu Ram, which will be the tallest in India, will immerse the city with the emotion of devotion, while inspiring people to remain unwavering in their commitment to our rich and timeless civilisational values.”
The auspicious foundation stone-laying ceremony witnessed the presence of Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt pontiff, Sri Subudendra Teertha Swamy, representatives from the Jai Shri Ram Foundation, and countless devotees, all coming together to witness the historic event.
The initiative marks a significant milestone in celebrating Lord Rama’s timeless legacy, reflecting the devotion and reverence held by millions of Indians. The magnificent statue, once complete, will stand as a symbol of cultural heritage and serve as a source of inspiration for generations to come.
