Maharashtra minister Shambhuraj Desai has launched a scathing attack on comedian Kunal Kamra over his recent videos targeting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, demanding his immediate arrest. Desai accused Kamra of deliberately insulting top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and warned that the comedian would soon face the “Prasad of Shiv Sena.”
Minister Calls for Action Against Kamra
Desai, a senior Shiv Sena leader and cabinet minister, expressed outrage over Kamra’s latest parody video and called on the police to take swift action. “Kunal Kamra has crossed all limits; the water has gone above the head. Now it’s time to give him ‘Prasad.’ Wherever he’s hiding, we will drag him out,” Desai told ANI.
Referring to the vandalism of Kamra’s show venue in Mumbai’s Khar area by Shiv Sena workers, Desai stated that their patience was running out. “Our Shiv Sainiks have already shown their anger by visiting his studio after his first video. Kamra’s actions are deliberate, and now it’s time for him to get the ‘Prasad’ of Shiv Sena in our own style,” he added.
Desai further revealed that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured action against Kamra under the law. “We want to tell the police—do not test our patience. Nab him from wherever he is, put him in a tyre, and give him ‘Prasad’,” PTI quoted Desai as saying, making a controversial reference to third-degree interrogation techniques.
Kamra’s Videos Amid ‘Traitor’ Jibe Controversy
The controversy erupted after Kamra reposted clips from his stand-up performance at The Habitat in Mumbai, where he mocked Eknath Shinde, calling him a “traitor.” The remark referred to Shinde’s 2022 rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, which led to the split of the Shiv Sena into two factions.
In the first video, Kamra parodied the song Hum Honge Kamyaab, with visuals showing Shiv Sena workers vandalizing his show venue after the clip went viral. The second video, shared on Wednesday, took a dig at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman using a parody of Hawa Hawai from the 1987 film Mr. India.
As the political row escalates, Kamra has yet to respond to the fresh threats from Shiv Sena leaders. Meanwhile, opposition leaders and free speech advocates have condemned the attacks on the comedian, calling it an assault on artistic expression.
