New Railway Line to Connect Yelahanka to Bengaluru Airport, Announces Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced plans on Saturday to expand a new railway line connecting Yelahanka to Bengaluru Airport. This initiative aims to enhance traffic capacity and streamline travel between the airport and the city.

During his visit to review the redevelopment of the Bengaluru Cantonment railway station, Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of making the railway station more accessible to airport passengers. He emphasized the need for close collaboration with airport authorities to facilitate smoother connections for travelers.

According to reports, the railway line extension is expected to reduce travel time from the airport to the Cantonment Station to just 40 minutes. The initiative will be spearheaded by V Somanna, Minister of State for Railways and Lok Sabha member from Tumakuru.

In addition to the railway line, Vaishnaw shared updates on the redevelopment of the Bengaluru Cantonment railway station, which is set to expand by an additional 18,000 square meters. The redevelopment plans include an underground parking facility that will accommodate 250 cars and an equivalent number of two-wheelers.

Vaishnaw also announced the upcoming production of Amrit Bharat trains version 2.0, which will feature various enhancements aimed at improving service quality for passengers.

Regarding the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP), the minister noted that both corridors are progressing rapidly. The integration of the BSRP with the Metro Rail system is expected to provide commuters with multiple travel options, significantly boosting the city’s traffic capacity.

Furthermore, Vaishnaw mentioned the recently launched NaMo Bharat Rapid Rail service, with plans to implement trains for shorter routes, including Bengaluru to Mysuru and Bengaluru to Tumakuru, thereby enhancing connectivity across the region.

Lastly, the minister reviewed the Circular Rail project, expressing optimism about its potential to transform Bengaluru’s transportation system. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is on track for completion by the end of December, setting the stage for the next steps in this ambitious initiative.

This expansion and redevelopment effort is poised to significantly improve travel efficiency for the residents of Bengaluru and visitors alike, making the city more connected and accessible.
