Assam School Teacher Stabbed to Death by Class 11 Student in Classroom

A tragic incident unfolded at a school in Assam’s Sivasagar district yesterday when a Class 11 student allegedly stabbed his chemistry teacher, Rajesh Baruah Bejawada, to death in the classroom. The 55-year-old teacher, who also held managerial responsibilities at the privately-owned school, was attacked by the 16-year-old student after being scolded for poor academic performance.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Bejawada had reprimanded the student for his performance in chemistry and asked him to bring his parents to the school for a meeting. Later in the day, the student returned to the classroom in casual clothes. When Mr. Bejawada asked him to leave and reprimanded him again, the student suddenly attacked, stabbing the teacher repeatedly with a knife.

A student who witnessed the incident recounted, “The accused was in casuals when he came to the class. The teacher asked him to leave and shouted at him when he did not listen. Angered, he took out a knife and struck the teacher on the head and stabbed him. We did not know he was carrying a knife. Our teacher was on the floor and bleeding heavily.”

Mr. Bejawada was immediately rushed to Dibrugarh for medical treatment but tragically succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The 16-year-old student has been detained and is currently being questioned by the authorities. The school community and local residents are in shock over the violent incident, which has raised concerns about student behavior and safety within educational institutions.
