Bangladeshi National Arrested in Kolkata for Illegally Residing with Fake Documents

A Bangladeshi national was arrested late Thursday night from Collin Lane in Kolkata for living in the country illegally with forged documents for nearly a year. The accused, identified as Md Abidur Rahman, had been residing in Kolkata using a fake Aadhaar card and PAN card, both obtained through fraudulent means.

Rahman, a resident of Narail district in the Khulna division of Bangladesh, had been visiting Kolkata for business over the past decade. Investigations revealed that he had settled in the port area of the city last year and managed to procure the fake identity documents that listed him as a resident of North 24 Parganas.

    Fake Documents Seized

During his arrest, the police seized the counterfeit Aadhaar and PAN cards, which were allegedly issued using forged documents. Authorities are now investigating how Rahman obtained these fake identity cards and who might have assisted him in the process.

A police officer confirmed that Rahman was produced before the court on Friday, which remanded him in police custody until January 6.

    Previous Arrest of Bangladeshi National

This arrest marks the second case in a month involving Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Kolkata. On November 29, police arrested Selim Matabbar, who had similarly used a fake Indian passport to live in the city. The passport, reportedly issued in Delhi in April, listed him as Ravi Sharma, a 40-year-old from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Matabbar was also found to be in possession of a fraudulent Aadhaar card issued in Nadia district, West Bengal.

    Ongoing Investigations

Authorities are continuing their investigations into these cases to track down individuals or networks that may be involved in facilitating the illegal residency of foreign nationals using forged documents.
