In a dramatic turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing it of being involved in a massive drug trafficking racket. The BJP’s allegations come in the wake of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busting a staggering ₹2,000 crore drug racket and arresting a former DMK functionary, Jaffer Sadiq, in connection with the case.
Demanding answers from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, the BJP has dubbed the DMK as the “Drug Marketing Kazhagam,” insinuating a deep-rooted connection between the ruling party and the illicit drug trade. BJP Mahila Morcha chief Vanathi Srinivasan, in a press conference, pointed fingers at the familial ties between Sadiq and the Chief Minister’s family, alleging close associations between them.
Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted connections between Sadiq and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, Stalin’s daughter-in-law, who directed a film produced by Sadiq. Moreover, social media posts allegedly reveal Sadiq’s close rapport with Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udayanidhi Stalin, further fueling suspicions of his links with high-profile political figures.
The BJP’s allegations extend to suggesting that Sadiq exploited his political connections for drug trafficking activities spanning multiple countries. Furthermore, the NCB hinted at Sadiq’s ties with individuals from the Tamil and Hindi film industries, as well as some “high-profile” personalities, raising concerns about possible political funding.
Accusing the DMK of reducing the state government to a “drug marketing” entity, BJP leader Tom Vadakkan didn’t spare opposition parties either, directing questions at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding his stance on drug trafficking. Vadakkan emphasized that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah could effectively combat the menace of illegal drug trafficking.
With Sadiq’s arrest and the ongoing investigation shedding light on monetary transactions involving a high-profile DMK leader, the BJP’s accusations have heightened political tensions in Tamil Nadu. The Enforcement Directorate is poised to launch a money laundering probe based on the NCB’s findings, indicating the gravity of the situation.
As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu simmers with allegations and counter-allegations, the onus lies on Chief Minister Stalin to address the accusations leveled against his party. With the upcoming Lok Sabha polls looming, the unfolding saga of the drug racket threatens to cast a shadow over the political arena, underscoring the imperative for transparency and accountability in governance.
