A Brazilian woman has been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly smuggling cocaine worth ₹10.96 crore by swallowing 100 capsules containing the drug, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said on Sunday.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials apprehended the woman after she arrived at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport from São Paulo, Brazil. Upon interrogation, she confessed to having ingested capsules filled with cocaine to smuggle them into India, according to an official statement from the DRI.
Following her admission, authorities admitted her to a government hospital, where she purged 100 capsules containing a total of 1,096 grams of cocaine. The illicit drug was estimated to be worth ₹10.96 crore in the illegal market, officials confirmed.
The woman has been arrested under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended recipients of the consignment.
