Christmas Morning Fog Disrupts Delhi: 20 Trains Delayed Due to Low Visibility

Dense Fog and Poor Visibility Delay 20 Trains in Delhi on Christmas Morning

Dense fog blanketed Delhi on Christmas morning, causing significant disruptions to rail services as 20 trains, including major express services, were delayed. Poor visibility, combined with plunging temperatures, created challenging conditions for commuters and residents alike.

Among the delayed trains were the Mumbai Central Rajdhani Express, Durg-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, Dakshin Express, Duronto Express, and the Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana Express. Travelers experienced extended waiting times as visibility dropped to 100 meters at 5:30 a.m., according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

    Temperature and Air Quality

The city recorded a temperature of 10°C, amplifying the winter chill that was intensified by rainfall on December 24. Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was reported at 333, classified as ‘very poor’ by the Central Pollution Control Board. Key areas recorded alarming AQI levels:

    • Anand Vihar: 360
    • Ashok Vihar: 372
    • Bayana: 362
    • CRRI Mathura Road: 324

An AQI between 301-400 indicates ‘very poor’ air quality, leading to respiratory discomfort for sensitive groups and the general population.

    Voices from the Ground

Locals expressed their struggle with the harsh winter and pollution. “The temperature has dropped significantly after yesterday’s rain. We are relying on bonfires to stay warm,” said a resident speaking to ANI.

Another local highlighted the difficulties posed by the fog, stating, “The visibility is so poor that it’s hard to navigate or even step out.” Others reported breathing issues exacerbated by the combination of pollution and cold.

    Advisory for Travelers

Authorities urged travelers to stay informed about train schedules and advised caution while navigating the foggy conditions.

As Delhi battles dense fog, plummeting temperatures, and high pollution levels, residents and commuters are bracing for continued disruptions in the days ahead.
