Television actor Raghav Tiwari, known for his work in the popular series Crime Patrol, was allegedly attacked with a knife in Mumbai’s Versova area. The incident occurred on December 30 while Tiwari was leaving a D-Mart store with friends. Despite lodging a complaint at the Versova police station, Tiwari has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of action by the authorities.
The Incident: A Road Rage Turned Violent
Tiwari recounted the sequence of events, stating that the altercation began when he mistakenly stepped in front of a scooter while crossing the road. Although he immediately apologized to the rider, the man reportedly reversed his scooter and began hurling abuses. Despite Tiwari’s attempts to defuse the situation, the rider brandished a knife and attempted to attack him.
“I said I apologized, brother, there’s no need to fight. But as soon as I mentioned the word ‘fight,’ he pulled out a knife,” Tiwari told news agency IANS.
The actor described the attacker as someone who seemed like a professional goon, citing his familiarity with handling weapons. Tiwari managed to maintain distance, but the attacker escalated the situation, assaulting one of Tiwari’s friends and even kicking the actor.
Self-Defense Escalates
As the violence intensified, Tiwari found a stick for self-defense. The attacker, meanwhile, retrieved additional weapons from his scooter, including a beer bottle and an iron rod. Tiwari struck the attacker, causing the beer bottle to shatter. However, the confrontation turned graver when the attacker hit Tiwari on the head with the iron rod, leaving him severely injured.
The actor’s friends rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he received stitches for wounds on both the front and back of his head.
Police Response Criticized
Following treatment, Tiwari and his friends filed a complaint at the Versova police station. However, the actor expressed frustration over the charges filed under sections 118(1) and 352 of the IPC, arguing that more serious charges like section 307 (attempt to murder) or 326 (causing grievous hurt with a weapon) should have been applied.
When Tiwari mentioned the knife attack to the police, he claimed they demanded evidence and did not initially record his full account. Eventually, the police collected CCTV footage from the scene but have reportedly taken no action yet.
A Second Encounter
Two days after the attack, Tiwari and a female friend encountered the attacker again. The man initially claimed he wanted to apologize but quickly resorted to abusive language and threats when Tiwari refused to engage.
“How can someone who wants to apologize behave in such a tone?” Tiwari questioned, adding that the attacker threatened him and his friend, saying, “Charbi nikalta hu tum logo ki” (I will teach you a lesson).
Concerns Over Public Safety
Tiwari identified the attacker as Mohammad Zaid, the son of action director Parvesh Sheikh, based on information from the police. The actor voiced concern about the danger posed by such individuals and criticized the authorities for their inaction.
“If such a man is roaming free, imagine what all he can do,” Tiwari warned.
The actor’s ordeal highlights the growing concerns over road rage incidents and the need for swift action by law enforcement to prevent further harm.
