At least 18 individuals lost their lives and 19 others sustained injuries in a devastating collision involving a double-decker bus and a milk tanker on the Lucknow-Agra expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district today.
The incident occurred early this morning when the bus, en route from Bihar’s Sitamarhi to Delhi, crashed into the milk tanker from behind. Among the deceased were three women and one child, as confirmed by local authorities.
According to reports from the scene, the force of the collision was severe, causing passengers to be ejected from the bus. Images and videos from the accident site depict a scene of destruction with scattered debris, shattered glass, and personal belongings strewn around.
Gaurang Rathi, the District Magistrate of Unnao, provided details of the tragic event, stating, “Today at around 5:15 am, a private bus traveling from Motihari, Bihar, collided with a milk tanker. Eighteen people have lost their lives, and 19 others are injured in the accident.”
Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene to transport the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment. Authorities are currently providing medical care to those injured in the accident.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured victims. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
The accident has highlighted concerns over road safety and has once again drawn attention to the need for stringent measures to prevent such tragic incidents on highways.
