A 29-year-old man has been arrested for his involvement in a fake passport and visa racket aimed at sending a young couple to Canada by disguising them as senior citizens, the Delhi Police reported on Saturday.
The accused, Bhupender Singh, also known as Vicky Nagra, was apprehended after months on the run. Four of his associates had already been arrested in June in connection with the same scam, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Usha Rangnani.
Fake Passport Operation Uncovered
The racket came to light in June when 24-year-old Gurusewak Singh was detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Canada using a passport issued in the name of a 67-year-old man, Rashvinder Singh.
Discrepancies in the passenger’s appearance, such as age and physical features, raised suspicions during a routine check. Upon interrogation, Gurusewak revealed his true identity and admitted that he was traveling with a fake passport.
Further investigation revealed that Gurusewak and his wife, Archana Kaur, had paid ₹30 lakh to an agent identified as Jagjeet Singh, alias Jaggi, to facilitate their journey to the United States via Canada. The couple underwent extensive makeovers to match the appearance of senior citizens in order to evade detection.
Arrests and Investigation
Jaggi and three other associates were arrested earlier for their involvement in the syndicate, while Archana Kaur was apprehended during her own attempt to board a flight with forged documents. The syndicate also included individuals who specialized in altering passenger identities to enable illegal immigration.
Bhupender Singh’s arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the scam. “The gang’s operations were extensive, involving fraudulent passports, travel documents, and even physical transformations to deceive authorities,” DCP Rangnani said.
Police Advisory for Travelers
The police have warned travelers against falling prey to fraudulent agents offering illegal travel routes and discounted documentation services. “Travelers are advised to rely only on authorized agencies for their documentation to avoid legal troubles and financial losses,” the police cautioned.
The investigation continues as authorities aim to uncover the full extent of the racket and prevent further misuse of the system.
