In a shocking incident that has drawn widespread attention, three Delhi traffic policemen have been suspended after a viral CCTV video showed them dividing a bribe they had accepted from a man. The video, which has spread rapidly on social media, captures the corrupt behavior of the officers in Gazipur’s Thrill Lauri Circle.
The footage reveals a police checkpost where a cop is seen arguing with a man. Following their conversation, the man places a bundle of money on a table, while the cop stands by. Once the man departs, the officer sits down and begins counting the money. The video then shows the officer and two colleagues dividing the cash among themselves, with the others smiling as they receive their shares.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena responded to the incident by announcing the suspension of the three officers involved: two assistant sub-inspectors and one head constable. Saxena confirmed that a comprehensive departmental inquiry is underway. “Taking cognizance of this post, after preliminary investigation, the above 3 policemen have been suspended and a comprehensive departmental inquiry is being conducted against them,” he stated on X (formerly Twitter).
This incident adds to a series of recent controversies involving Delhi traffic police. Earlier in July, another constable was suspended for fining a South Korean man ₹5,000 without issuing a receipt. The entire transaction was recorded by the car’s dashboard camera and widely shared on social media, prompting an immediate response from the authorities.
In June, two constables were suspended for accepting bribes from a transporter. The Delhi Traffic Police announced a departmental inquiry into their actions, indicating a crackdown on corrupt practices within the force.
