In a bizarre incident in Kannur, Kerala, on July 19, the police apprehended a man for allegedly driving a car in an inebriated state over a railway track. The car managed to cover a short distance along the tracks before shutting off. Promptly, the railway gatekeeper and local residents alerted the police and the nearby railway station about the hazardous situation.
According to the police, the driver appeared to be intoxicated and likely mistook the railway tracks for a regular road, leading to the unfortunate incident. A video of the incident circulated on social media, showing concerned locals attempting to push the vehicle off the tracks.
On the same day, the police arrested the man and documented his arrest. Additionally, they confiscated his car before releasing him on bail. The reckless behavior of driving under the influence poses significant risks to both the driver and others on the road.
In an unrelated incident in Puducherry, five youths faced similar consequences after being arrested by the police for drunken driving. The incident occurred on July 11 when their car collided with oncoming two-wheelers on a one-way street. Over a dozen people sustained injuries, and several vehicles were damaged in the process.
During the police chase, the car traveled for nearly five kilometers without stopping, causing further concern and endangering lives. Eventually, the car’s front left tire burst, and the vehicle came to a halt in the Lawspet area of Puducherry. The arrested men reportedly hailed from Chennai’s Medavakkam area and were visiting Puducherry at the time of the incident.
Both these incidents highlight the dangers of drunk driving and emphasize the importance of responsible behavior on the roads to ensure the safety of oneself and others. Authorities are actively taking measures to address such cases and enforce stringent laws against driving under the influence.
