The victims had arrived from Maharashtra’s Amravati district on Sunday to work at construction sites in Pune. Locals reported that the victims were resting in shanties set up on the footpath when the truck ploughed through them.
The driver of the truck has been detained, and authorities are investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The tragic accident has sparked outrage among locals, with many demanding stricter measures to prevent such reckless driving and ensure safety for vulnerable individuals sleeping on the streets. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash and establish accountability.
