Tragic events unfolded in a Rajasthan village as Pratab Singh, an elderly waste collector known affectionately as “Babaji,” took his own life following viral videos that subjected him to ridicule and mockery.
Pratab Singh’s life revolved around collecting plastic bottles and other waste, which he diligently sold to make a living. He was a familiar sight in the village, pushing his handcart and known by all as “Babaji.”
However, his peaceful existence was shattered when some young individuals from Lohawat village began jeering at him, filming his activities, and sharing videos and memes of him on social media platforms. The videos captured moments where Pratab Singh, in good spirits, would jokingly ask if they wanted to buy waste as they chased him, but instead of camaraderie, he faced derision and ridicule.
One particularly distressing video showcased men mocking him while he pushed his handcart, amplifying his vulnerability and the insensitivity of those involved.
The increasing circulation of these videos led to unwanted fame for Pratab Singh, which took a toll on his mental well-being. Unable to cope with the humiliation and the unkind spotlight cast upon him, he tragically ended his life, his body found hanging from a tree near the highway.
