Four Killed, Five Injured as Mini Bus Catches Fire in Pune’s Hinjewadi

Four people were charred to death, and five others sustained burn injuries after a mini bus caught fire in Pune’s Hinjewadi area on Wednesday morning, police said.

The tragic incident occurred around 7:30 AM when employees of a private firm based in Hinjewadi were on their way to work. The fire reportedly started in the driver’s cabin, leaving passengers struggling to escape. While some managed to exit the vehicle, others were trapped inside as the front door became inaccessible and the rear door failed to open, leading to the fatalities, said Kanhaiya Thorat, senior police inspector at Hinjewadi police station.

According to a fire brigade official from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, the fire spread rapidly, preventing those who had escaped from rescuing their colleagues. Firefighters later managed to douse the flames, but four employees had already lost their lives.

The five injured individuals were rushed to Ruby Hall Clinic, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing, and officials are examining whether any lapses in vehicle maintenance or safety measures contributed to the tragedy.
