In a significant disruption to railway services, at least 11 wagons of a goods train derailed late Tuesday in Peddapalli district of Telangana, leading to the cancellation of 20 passenger trains. The incident occurred between Raghavapuram and Ramagundam while the train was transporting iron ore, according to officials. Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported from the derailment.
Restoration work has been initiated, with teams working to remove the derailed wagons and repair the damaged track. A spokesperson from South Central Railway assured that efforts are underway to restore the tracks and resume normal services as quickly as possible. “We are working tirelessly to restore the tracks and minimise disruption in train services. The safety of passengers remains our top priority, and we are making every effort to complete track restoration soon,” the spokesperson said.
The derailment has caused significant delays in the region’s train operations, with 20 passenger trains, including several intercity services, being cancelled or diverted.
This incident comes just a week after another train mishap in West Bengal, where three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah. The accident, which occurred on November 9, involved two third AC economy coaches and a parcel van, as the train was transitioning between tracks. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in that incident either.
Rail authorities are closely monitoring the situation in Telangana, with additional teams deployed to ensure the swift restoration of services and maintain safety standards.
