Gurugram Faces Severe Waterlogging and Traffic Issues Due to Heavy Rain; Subways Closed

Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging and Traffic Disruption in Gurugram

Heavy rainfall overnight has led to severe waterlogging across Gurugram, causing widespread traffic disruptions and the closure of several underpasses and subways. By 8:30 am on Sunday, the district administration reported that the city had received 53mm of rain, with some areas recording over 80mm. This deluge caused significant accumulation of water in multiple sectors and major roads.

The Gurugram-Delhi Expressway and various key intersections were particularly hard hit, with rainwater submerging streets and causing severe traffic congestion. Commuters faced a nightmare as vehicles were stranded and people had to wade through knee-deep water in some areas. Stormwater drains were clogged, exacerbating the flooding and contributing to the traffic chaos.

Several underpasses and subways, including those at DLF phases 1 and 3, Sector 4, 5, Palam Vihar, and Suncity Township, have been closed as a precautionary measure to ensure commuter safety. The authorities have prioritized managing these disruptions and are working to alleviate the situation.

Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has deployed emergency teams throughout the city to address the flooding. “We have stationed cranes and police vans at key locations to assist with vehicle breakdowns. Our teams are working around the clock to pump out water from flooded areas,” Yadav said. He also urged residents to avoid pothole-ridden roads and to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.

The ongoing efforts by the district administration aim to restore normalcy and ensure that the affected areas are cleared as quickly as possible to minimize the impact on daily commutes and city operations.
