” Gurugram Housing Complex Implements ‘Artificial Rain’ to Tackle Pollution”

As the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Gurugram continues to hover in the “very poor” category, residents of the DLF Primus housing complex in Sector 82 have taken matters into their own hands to combat the city’s severe pollution levels. The complex is using a unique approach called “artificial rain” to control dust and particulate matter that has been contributing to poor air quality.

In a striking video shared on Thursday, water can be seen pouring from sprinklers on top of the 32-storey towers of DLF Primus. The water, dispensed through firefighting pipes and sprinklers, is aimed at settling dust particles in the air, making the environment safer for residents, particularly children and the elderly.

Achal Yadav, president of the complex’s resident welfare association (RWA), explained that the measure was necessary as pollution levels in the city are becoming increasingly harmful, and government efforts alone cannot tackle the issue. Yadav highlighted the complex’s commitment to addressing the air pollution problem. “Pollution is becoming a serious issue and it cannot be controlled by the government alone. Every resident of Gurugram has to contribute,” he said.

Yadav also mentioned that the complex will continue to conduct artificial rain as needed, depending on the AQI. “We are using fire lines to carry out artificial rain from our 32-storey towers so that dust and other particles, which are harming children and senior citizens, can be controlled to some extent,” Yadav added. If the pollution persists, the residents are prepared to continue this daily effort.

In addition to the “artificial rain” initiative, the complex has introduced other measures, such as starting a carpool service for residents traveling to Delhi’s Cyber City and other areas. This service has also been extended to residents of nearby complexes.

The concept of “artificial rain,” more commonly known as cloud seeding, involves dispersing substances like silver iodide or dry ice into the atmosphere to encourage precipitation, which can help reduce airborne pollutants. The Delhi government, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has also expressed interest in using artificial rain as a potential tool to fight air pollution in the region.

As cities like Gurugram and Delhi battle severe air quality issues, residents are increasingly exploring innovative solutions to protect their health and mitigate the effects of pollution, underlining the need for collaborative efforts in the face of a growing environmental crisis.
