A traffic policeman was dragged for several metres by a speeding vehicle in Faridabad after asking the driver to show his vehicle documents. The incident, which occurred at the Ballabgarh bus stop, has gone viral on social media.
The altercation began on Friday evening when the allegedly drunk driver obstructed traffic by parking his car in the middle of the road to pick up passengers. The traffic sub-inspector approached the driver and asked for his vehicle documents to issue a challan. This request quickly escalated into a heated dispute.
According to police reports, the officer leaned through the driver’s door to examine the papers when the driver suddenly accelerated, dragging the officer along. The video, posted by PTI, shows one of the passengers exiting the vehicle as the driver sped away, hitting the roadside curb.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the officer clung to the door until the car eventually came to a halt. Onlookers and other traffic police officers quickly surrounded the vehicle to rescue the officer. The driver was subsequently taken to the nearest police station.
The video has sparked outrage on social media, highlighting the dangers faced by traffic police in their line of duty.
