In a tragic incident, a massive fire engulfed a building in Hyderabad on Monday, resulting in the loss of at least nine lives, according to local authorities. The fire originated on the ground floor of the multi-storeyed apartment complex, where a godown storing drums containing chemicals and oil led to the rapid spread of flames to other floors.
As the tragedy unfolded, the Fire Department undertook a rescue operation that successfully evacuated over 20 people from the building. The majority of the victims were tenants residing on the first and second floors, while occupants on the third and fourth floors sustained minor injuries.
The owner of the building, identified as Ramesh Jaiswal, is currently on the run. Investigations reveal that the ground floor, owned by Jaiswal, served as a godown for oil drums and cans, contributing to the intensity of the fire.
During the rescue operation, dramatic scenes unfolded as firefighters were captured on video saving a child and a woman trapped inside the building. In a tweet by news agency ANI, the footage shows the rescue team pulling the child and the woman from a window on the first floor, utilizing a temporary staircase. The video also depicts the valiant efforts of firefighters using water cannons to suppress the flames.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of stringent safety measures and oversight, especially in structures where hazardous materials are stored. As authorities continue investigations and efforts to control the aftermath, the tragedy highlights the necessity of preventive measures to ensure the safety of residents and mitigate the risk of such devastating incidents.
