IMD Predicts Cold Wave in North India Starting Tomorrow

Cold Wave Conditions Expected in North India from December 29, IMD Warns

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for cold wave conditions in northern India starting from December 29. The department stated that minimum temperatures across Northwest India are likely to drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next two days due to a western disturbance near Pakistan.

The western disturbance, which is set to impact the western Himalayan region, is expected to bring cold weather in the region from January 1 to 6, 2025. During this period, cold wave conditions are anticipated to intensify, particularly in Himachal Pradesh, where they could escalate to severe cold wave conditions from December 30 to 31.

Other states in the region, including Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, will experience cold wave conditions. The IMD predicts that cold wave conditions will persist in Punjab and Haryana from December 29 to January 3, 2025, and cold days are expected in Rajasthan on December 28 and 29.

Dense fog conditions are also expected to prevail in several parts of northern India during the late night and early morning hours. Areas such as Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and Rajasthan will experience dense to very dense fog from December 28 to 30. Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, and Jharkhand are also likely to be affected by similar foggy conditions during this period.

Additionally, the eastern regions of north India, including sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura, will face dense fog from December 30 to January 2, 2025.

Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions due to the chilly conditions and low visibility caused by fog, which could affect travel and daily activities in many areas.
