In a compassionate response to the earthquake that recently shook western Nepal, India has stepped forward to provide essential aid and relief materials to the affected region. The disaster has claimed the lives of more than 150 people and left over 160 injured.
On Sunday, India sent a military transport aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) loaded with medicines and relief supplies to Nepal to support those impacted by the earthquake. This immediate assistance is a testament to India’s commitment to its “Neighbourhood First” policy, which aims to strengthen relationships and provide support to neighboring nations during times of crisis.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted this act of solidarity in a tweet, stating, “Providing emergency relief assistance to earthquake-affected areas of Nepal. As a first responder, India delivers medicines and relief material. PM @narendramodi’s Neighbourhood First policy in action.”
The relief consignments, including much-needed medicines and essential relief items, were officially handed over to Nepalese authorities by Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava. The timely assistance from India is a reflection of the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
India’s proactive response in delivering relief materials to Nepal underscores the importance of regional cooperation in addressing natural disasters and extends its support to help Nepal recover and rebuild in the aftermath of this tragic earthquake.
