India Successfully Conducts Maiden Flight Test of Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile

India successfully carried out the maiden flight test of its Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) on Tuesday from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) off the coast of Odisha. The test marks a significant milestone in India’s defence capabilities, with the missile demonstrating impressive performance during its flight.

The flight test was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), with the missile launched from a mobile articulated launcher at the ITR Chandipur. According to the Ministry of Defence, all sub-systems of the missile performed as expected, meeting the primary mission objectives.

The missile followed its desired path with waypoint navigation, showcasing its ability to maneuver at different altitudes and speeds. This demonstrated the missile’s versatility and precision in real-world conditions. The missile is also equipped with advanced avionics and software, which enhances its reliability and overall performance.

Multiple tracking systems, including radar, electro-optical tracking, and telemetry, monitored the missile’s flight to ensure complete coverage of its flight path. The missile is designed to launch from mobile platforms as well as from frontline ships using a universal vertical launch module system.

Developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) in Bengaluru, with contributions from various DRDO laboratories and Indian industries, the LRLACM project is a Defence Acquisition Council-approved mission mode initiative. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Hyderabad and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in Bengaluru are the key partners in the missile’s development and integration.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the armed forces, and the industry for the successful flight test, highlighting the strategic importance of the missile in strengthening India’s defence capabilities. The test was witnessed by senior scientists from various DRDO laboratories, along with representatives from India’s armed forces.

The LRLACM is a versatile missile with potential applications for both ground-based and maritime operations. Its success enhances India’s defence technology and strengthens its capacity to meet evolving security challenges.
