Police have launched an investigation into the theft of over ₹10 lakh from an ATM in Gurugram, which occurred last month at an Axis Bank ATM on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The incident, which took place on the night of April 30, involved sophisticated tactics that allowed the thieves to bypass the machine’s security system without causing any visible damage to the ATM.
According to Gaurav Kumar Baisla, an employee of Hitachi Payment Services, the company responsible for maintaining ATMs, the thieves disabled the ATM’s video recording system before hacking into its security. They managed to steal not only ₹10 lakh in cash but also important equipment, including the digital video recorder (DVR), battery, hard disk, PC core, and the chest lock from the ATM booth.
“The theft was carried out in such a manner that there was no physical damage to the ATM machine, which has made this case more complex to investigate,” said Baisla in his complaint.
The incident was reported to the Sadar police station, and a case has been registered. Police officials have already begun their investigation, with help from technical experts to understand the modus operandi behind the theft.
“We are closely examining CCTV footage from the area, along with other available evidence, to identify the suspects and the method they used to hack into the system,” said Sunil Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sadar police station.
Authorities are hopeful that the investigation will lead to breakthroughs soon, and they are expanding their search to find the culprits behind this well-planned heist.
As the investigation continues, police are urging the public to report any information that could assist in tracking down the thieves and preventing similar crimes in the future.
