The eagerly anticipated dance performance by Bollywood sensation Sunny Leone at the University College of Engineering in Kerala has hit a roadblock as Kerala University’s vice-chancellor has denied permission for the event. Scheduled for early July, the performance was set to take place on the campus in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.
According to reports from Malayalam media outlets, Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal, the vice-chancellor of Kerala University, instructed the registrar to exclude Sunny Leone’s show from the program list. Dr. Kunnummal cited an existing directive from the Higher Education Department that prohibits performances by “outside bands” on university campuses.
Explaining the decision, Dr. Kunnummal referenced a recent stampede incident at CUSAT campus, emphasizing the need to adhere to safety protocols and regulations regarding outside performances on campuses. He also highlighted the rule against collecting money from external sources for events held within the campus premises.
The vice-chancellor expressed surprise upon learning about the Sunny Leone event through a promotional poster, stressing the logistical challenges and financial implications associated with hosting a Bollywood celebrity performance for a relatively small student body of around 300 students.
This decision comes in the wake of a tragic stampede incident last year at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), where four students lost their lives and over 60 were injured during a concert.
Sunny Leone, known for her roles in Bollywood films such as “Jism 2,” “Jackpot,” “Shootout at Wadala,” and “Ragini MMS 2,” has also ventured into Malayalam cinema. She recently shared excitement about her involvement in an upcoming Malayalam film, indicating her growing presence and popularity in the regional film industry.
While fans may miss out on her live performance at the engineering college, Sunny Leone continues to make waves in the entertainment world, showcasing her versatility and talent across various film industries.
