A tragic incident in Kerala has raised concerns over food safety after a woman, identified as Usaiba, passed away due to suspected food poisoning. Health officials are investigating the role of mayonnaise served with a popular dish called “kuzhimanthi” in causing the food-related illness.
Usaiba, a resident of Perinjanam, fell ill after consuming food at a restaurant in the central Kerala district. She was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur for treatment but sadly succumbed to the illness. Several others who dined at the same restaurant also reported food poisoning symptoms and sought medical attention at various hospitals.
Health officials have pointed to mayonnaise served with “kuzhimanthi” as a possible source of the food poisoning. “Kuzhimanthi,” a variation of a Yemeni dish comprising flavored rice and meat, is a popular item in non-vegetarian restaurants across Kerala. The consumption of mayonnaise with this dish is under scrutiny as investigators try to pinpoint the exact cause of the illness outbreak.
Authorities acted swiftly following the incident by sealing the restaurant located in Perinjanam near Moonnupeedika. The Kaipamangalam police station, overseeing the jurisdiction where the incident occurred, has been actively involved in coordinating the investigation into this tragic event.
The incident has sparked concerns among residents and diners regarding food safety standards in restaurants. Health authorities are emphasizing the importance of stringent hygiene practices, especially in food preparation and handling, to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
